Dr Andy is fortunate to have been in the Dental environment from the age of 16. His roles have included dental assistant, decontamination manager and practice manager.
Andy has worked in both NHS and Private practice across the province and acquired Abercorn Dental Care in 2019. Andy takes a very relaxed, friendly and professional approach to his treatments and always strives to make your visit a very comfortable and memorable one.
Andy’s experience, dedication and passion to Dentistry has resulted in his highly regarded reputation. Andy holds 6 postgraduate degrees from the prestigious Queens University Belfast, Newcastle University, Ulster University with The College of Medicine and Dentistry. and the 3 Royal College of Surgeons in – Ireland (Dublin), England (London) and Scotland (Glasgow)

Outside of the practice, Andy and wife Rachel are busy with their 4 children and like to travel with them as often as is possible. Andy also does a lot of work with a local charity where he works weekly in helping others in times of need.

Dr Kris Matchett
Associate Dentist - BDSGDC No. 301308Originally from Banbridge, Kris graduated from the University of Dundee with commendation and has spent the past nine years in Scotland, most recently working in a dynamic mixed NHS and private practice in the northeast. His practice spans a full range of dental treatments, with a special focus on restorative dentistry, oral surgery and anxiety management.
In his restorative practice, he incorporates digital technologies and the latest techniques in adhesive dentistry to deliver durable and aesthetically pleasing solutions to his patients. Kris is also passionate about transforming smiles and offer aligner treatments tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
His primary interest lies in oral surgery and helping patients overcome their dental anxieties. He provides a comprehensive range of surgical treatments, from straightforward extractions to complex extractions and procedures, including third molar surgeries. Understanding that dental anxiety can be a significant barrier to receiving care, he prides himself on creating a comforting and reassuring environment for all my patients. For surgical procedures, he offers IV sedation to ensure a relaxed and stress-free experience, even for the most apprehensive patients.
He is committed to building lasting relationships based on trust, empathy, and professionalism. Whether it’s a routine check-up or more extensive treatment, Dr Kris is dedicated to ensure that each patient receives personalised high quality with meticulous attention to detail.

Megan McVeigh
Dental Hygienist - DDHGDC No. 268314Megan qualified from Trinity College Dublin with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene.
Megan has extensive experience in a wide range of clinical settings providing hygiene maintenance and periodontal treatment for all patient types. Megan is passionate about promoting oral health along with educating patients on preventative care and positive lifestyle changes.
Outside of Abercorn she enjoys running, spending time with her family ad socialising with her friends.
Claire Henning
Practice ManagerClaire is our practice manager, bringing 20 years of dental experience to our team. With a deep understanding of dentistry, Claire is committed to ensuring that each patient’s experience is positive and enjoyable, while also fostering a supportive environment for every team member.
Claire holds an NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing, a Chartered Management Institute Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership, Treatment Coordinator training, and has completed various business administration courses.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys spending time with her young family, walking in Newcastle or along the North Coast, and socialising with friends.
John Downey
Dental Technician - RDTGDC No. 118792John is our very experienced and specialist dental technician who designs and creates restorative dental equipment and appliances which are custom made for patients at Abercorn Dental Care.
He corrects irregularities in our patients dentitions using removeable dental prosthesis. Johns work is one of a kind and we are very lucky to have him.
Rachel Davies
Administration Manager - Dip PSRachel oversees the business side of the practice and is key in our practice’s growth and the offering of new treatments. She will ensure that our range of materials, equipment and products are of the highest standard.

Outside of work Rachel is kept busy with her and Andys 4 children.
Lynne McGaw
Senior Dental Nurse - RDN Cert SedationGDC No. 110226Lynne brings 24 years of dental nursing experience. She is qualified in dental nursing having gained The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in dental nursing in 2000 and The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in Conscious Sedation for dental nursing in 2016. She has a warming personality which all of our patients adore.
Christine Malcomson
Senior Dental Nurse - RDN Cert Sedation GDC No. 129175Christine brings 22 years of dental nursing experience. She is qualified in dental nursing having gained The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in dental nursing in 2007 and The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in Conscious Sedation for dental nursing in 2016. In her spare time Christine enjoys working out at the gym and likes to go on day trips with her 2 children. She has an infectious laugh which you will most probably hear at the practice.
Melissa McGuffin
Dental Nurse - RDNGDC No. 276332Melissa brings 7 years of dental nursing experience.
She is qualified in dental nursing having gained The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in dental nursing in 2018.
She is a keen hockey player and is vice caption with her local team.
Shauna McIvor
Dental Nurse - RDNGDC No. 307854Shauna brings 4 years of dental nursing experience.
She is qualified in dental nursing having gained The National Examining Board for dental nurses certificate in dental nursing in 2022.
In her spare time she enjoys doing nails on her family and friends and walking her two big dogs through the mountains of Mourne at the weekends
Coral Whiteside
Lead ReceptionistCoral greets our patients at the practice, assists our patients, schedules appointments and is your point of call on the phone line.
Coral loves going on family days out with Aaron and Archer. She also enjoys climbing mountains, going to the gym when she gets time.
Coral looks to cook and is excited about getting married in the Summer 2023
Fiona Welshman
ReceptionistFiona greets our patients at the practice, assists our patients, schedules appointments and is your point of call on the phone line.
She enjoys quality family time with her husband Davy and her four amazing daughters. She is an animal lover, owning 2 huskies and 2 cats.
In her spare time she enjoys sports and reading a good novel
